GOP presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis will be making a stop in the region this (Friday) afternoon on the Florida governor’s latest campaign swing through Iowa. DeSantis and staff are hosting a meet and greet with voters in Denison at the Bella Sera at 169 Oak Ridge Drive from 1:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. DeSantis was initially poised to be the leading contender for former President Donald Trump in the Republican nominating process, but he has struggled to close the gap on Trump’s substantial lead. The latest poll averages from FiveThirtyEight show Trump leading among likely GOP voters with 59.3 percent, followed by DeSantis at 12.9 percent, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley at 7.6 percent, and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy at 5.2 percent.
