CCSD Superintendent Responds To ISL/SAVE Revenue Purpose Statement Approvals

Carroll-Tigers-CCSD

Carroll Community School District Superintendent (CCSD) Dr. Casey Berlau says he is grateful to stakeholders for putting their support behind the instructional support levy (ISL) renewal and Secure an Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE) revenue purpose statement in Tuesday’s elections. The ISL, which has been in place since 2015 for the district, generates around $1 million per year for the school’s general fund and is used to support in-town busing programs, concurrent enrollment for students at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), class-size management, and much more. Berlau says there was some apprehension watching results trickle in for the ISL question.

The renewal passed with 55.61 support, and the ISL will continue through Fiscal Year (FY) 2035. Funding is generated through a combination of property taxes and an income surtax. The million dollars generated is typically split 50/50 between those two sources. Berlau says the SAVE revenue purpose statement won’t affect how much money the district receives, but it does grant school officials flexibility on how they use the funds.
