The only contested race on Tuesday’s Carroll City Council election ended with incumbent Carolyn Siemann retaining her Ward 4 seat. Siemann defeated her challenger, Justin McCool, with 65 percent of the vote, 238 to 126. Jerry Fleshner was the only name appearing on Tuesday’s ballot in the mayoral race, winning 85.8 percent of the vote. There were 257 write-in votes cast in the Carroll mayor race, the bulk of them going to a late campaign from Mike Long. Incumbent LaVern Dirkx was unchallenged in his reelection bid, winning 1,580 votes of the 1,611 ballots cast in his race. In Ward 2, a local businessman and Marine Corps veteran, Jason Atherton, was uncontested. Of the 429 ballots cast in his race, 421, or 98.1 percent, were in his favor. Results from Tuesday’s city/school elections are unofficial until canvassed by the respective county boards of supervisors. Results from all local elections are included below.
