Four trailers were damaged or destroyed following a fire yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon in a privately-owned trailer park off of Black Hawk Lake’s southern shore. According to Lake View Fire Chief Jim Garrels, firefighters were dispatched at approximately 1:32 p.m. to the 2800 block of S. State Road, south of the state park campground. Garrels says their initial investigation found a space heater in one of the trailers likely started the fire. The blaze spread to other trailers in the park, destroying two, substantially damaging a third, and melting the exterior siding on the fourth. Because multiple structures were involved, the Iowa Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to assist in the formal investigation. Several propane tanks also ignited during the fire. No injuries were reported, but crews remained on the scene for nearly four hours, battling the blaze and monitoring for hotspots once the fire was out. The Lake View Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Sac City and Wall Lake Fire Departments, the Lake View Police Department, the Sac County Sheriff’s Office, and Sac County Emergency Medical Services.
