A Carroll man has been sentenced to more than five years in prison on federal drug and gun charges. Forty-five-year-old Darwin Robinson, Jr., was sentenced Nov. 9 in Sioux City for charges related to illegal firearm possession and intent to distribute methamphetamine. Robinson, who had prior convictions for cocaine possession and domestic abuse assaults, was prohibited from owning firearms. Robinson pled guilty to the charges levied against him in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa on July 20. Evidence presented during hearings revealed Robinson possessed a .40 caliber handgun despite prohibitive convictions and regular methamphetamine use. During a March 2021 traffic stop, law enforcement discovered two small bags of methamphetamine on Robinson and the loaded firearm in the car. Robinson admitted intentions to sell the seized methamphetamine. With no parole in the federal system, Robinson remains in the custody of the United States Marshal until his transfer to a federal prison. The Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Carroll Police Department, Iowa DCI Criminalistics Laboratory, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) also assisted in the investigation.
