Four area first responders or agencies were recognized over the weekend by the Iowa Emergency Medical Services Association (IEMSA) for their dedication to their profession and the public. Carroll County Communications Director and 911 Coordinator Jason Hoffman was awarded the 2023 Dispatcher of the Year award. Carroll Police Chief Brad Burke accepted the Friend of EMS award on behalf of the Carroll Police Department, while Luke Winkelman, the former Calhoun County Interim Director, was selected for the Career EMS Provider of the Year. Rae Ann Meyer of the Carroll County Ambulance Service was also inducted into the IEMSA Hall of Fame. Her career in the county spanned over two decades, and many current EMS professionals in the region took at least one training course led by Meyer. She also played a critical role in the formation of the Carroll County EMS Foundation. Meyer retired from Carroll County EMS in January 2023. Photos of the recipients are included below.
