Gas prices in Iowa crept closer to the $3-per-gallon mark a week before hundreds of thousands of Iowans are expected to hit the road for Thanksgiving travel. According to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and AAA-Iowa, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.03 across the state as of Wednesday, Nov. 15. That is eight cents below prices from a week ago and 47 cents below last year’s prices. The national average on Wednesday was down six cents to $3.35 per gallon. Retail diesel prices in Iowa slid 13 cents to $4.24 per gallon, compared to $5.06 per gallon last year. The national average was 10 cents higher at $4.34 per gallon. Wholesale ethanol was unchanged from $2.16. In heating fuels, propane prices held steady at $1.54 per gallon, home heating oil fell nine cents to $3.49 per gallon, and natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site climbed 10 cents to $3.19 per MMBtu.
