Bernard “Bernie” Feilmeier of Carroll

Bernard “Bernie” Edwin Feilmeier, age 87, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll.  Celebrant Fr. Brian Feller, Music for the Mass will be Jane Heithoff and Kathy Halbur with Kathleen Macke as cantor.  Lector for the Mass will be Jerry Rupiper.  Gift bearers will be Avah Bill, Tessa Lorenzen, Tatum Lorenzen, Tamryn Lorenzen, and Ofelia DeGlopper.  Casket bearers will be Trevor Feilmeier, Jonah Feilmeier, Tate Hansman, Cody Feilmeier, Scott Lornezen, Trey Lorenzen, and Gabe Bennett.  Honorary casket bearers will be Courtney Lorenzen, Bailey Feilmeier, and Maddie Feilmeier.  Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Monday.  The casket will be moved to St. Lawrence Catholic Church at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M. prior to the Mass.

Bernie was born on November 24, 1935 on his family’s farm near Templeton, IA.  He was the son of Wendelin and Clara (Willenborg) Feilmeier.  He grew up on the farm and attended Holy Angels Catholic School until the eighth grade.  After his schooling, he worked on the farm until he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea.  Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Roselle and worked construction.  He was married to Susan Murphy in 1965 and they had three children: Mark, J.D., and Erin.  He worked for H&H Foods and later Farner Bocken for over 50 years.  Bernie was an avid Cardinals, Raiders, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Kuemper Knights fan.  He faithfully attended the sporting events of his children and grandchildren, and he was their biggest fan.  He loved to socialize, making the rounds every morning, to see his many friends.

Bernie is survived by his three children and their families: Mark Feilmeier (Lee) of Breda, J.D. Feilmeier (Stacie) of Clive, and Erin Feilmeier (Joel Mattox) of Waukee; seven grandchildren: Courtney Lorenzen (Scott), Bailey Feilmeier (Gabe Bennett), Trevor Feilmeier (Maddie), Jonah Feilmeier, Tate Hansman, Cody Feilmeier, and Ofelia DeGlopper; six great-grandchildren: Trey, Avah, Tessa, Tatum, Tamryn, and Briggs; a sister Rita Dentlinger of Glidden; and several nieces and nephews.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents Wendelin and Clara Feilmeier; his sisters: Mary in infancy, Laura Muhlbauer (Tony), and Marie Lammers (Ed); his brothers: Edwin in infancy, Rudy, Earl (Jannis), Wendelin Jr. (Marge), Al (Irene), and Leonard (Marcia).
