Today (Friday) marks the final day of National Crash Responder Safety Week, and the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Iowa State Patrol are stressing the importance of motorists responding appropriately when encountering flashing lights on highways. “Protect Those Who Protect You” is the message from professionals involved in crash responses, urging drivers to either move over or slow down when approaching scenes. The Move Over Law in Iowa requires drivers to shift lanes or reduce speed upon approaching any vehicle with flashing lights. Unfortunately, statistics reveal that less than a third of people know these laws. As crash responders execute their roles, drivers play a crucial part in ensuring their safety and that of those attending to incidents. National Crash Responder Safety Week ran from Monday, Nov. 13, through Friday, Nov. 17.
