Carroll City Council Sets Public Hearing On Sale Of City-Owned Property For Dec. 11

The Carroll City Council voted unanimously during last night’s (Monday) meeting to proceed with the proposed sale of 0.14 acres of city-owned land to facilitate commercial development in southeastern Carroll. Public Works Director Randy Krauel says a local company is seeking to purchase the small strip of land to build a crossing over a drainage ditch south of Housby Mack.

The proposed price for the parcel in question is $4,775. Krauel explains how city officials arrived at that figure.

City Attorney Dave Bruner says this amount would meet the Iowa Code’s definition of a fair market price. The proposed sale would be direct to Carroll County Redemption, owned by Matt Wendl. He explains what he has planned for the small stretch of land.

Wendl adds previous development has added approximately $60,000 per year in tax revenue to the city’s budget, and he is optimistic this additional area will offer similar growth. City officials set the public hearing, which is required before the sale can proceed, for the Dec. 11 Carroll City Council meeting.
