Michael Klaus, 67 of Carroll, died Sunday, November 26, 2023, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 1, 2023, at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Schott officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Following the burial, a luncheon and celebration of Michael’s life will be held at the Sharp Center.
Memorials may be left at the funeral home for Plains Area Mental Health in Carroll.

Everyone who knew him has fond memories of Michael. Michael was born on September 15, 1956, the son of Mervin and Amelia (Vonnahme) Klaus. He graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1974, where he was a member of an award-winning debate team. He was a people person, who was deeply interested in how people related to each other and the forces that affected their lives. He graduated with honors in anthropology from the University of Iowa in 1978. After returning to Carroll he became active in the Carroll County Democrats. He served as Secretary to the Carroll County Democrats for many years. He was employed by the Plains Area Mental Health Center for many years. The “Club House” program meant a lot to him, and he brought a lot to that program. He will be missed by many.”
Michael is survived by his siblings: John (Carolyn) Klaus of Ames, Paul (Janice) Klaus of Forest Lake, MN, and Robert Klaus of Amana; his brother-in-law, Dana Thompson of Ames; his nieces and nephews: Renee, Frank, Steven, James, Sarah, and Scott; as well as his great nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Annette Thompson.
