Coon Rapids Enterprise Under New Ownership At The Start Of 2024

After 40+ years, ownership of the Coon Rapids Enterprise weekly newspaper will be published under new management. According to Charlie Nixon, the paper’s owner and publisher, Sheldon-based Iowa Information Media Group, which is the same company that purchased the Carroll Times Herald near the end of 2022, signed an agreement to buy the Enterprise. The Enterprise had been on the market for quite some time, and Nixon had announced last week that the paper would cease printing at the end of the year. However, a deal was reached with Iowa Information to complete the sale, which becomes official on Jan. 2. Nixon says the sale is bittersweet, as the newspaper has been a part of him for his entire life.

If it happened in or around Coon Rapids over the last 40 years, Nixon and the Enterprise covered it. He says that was made possible thanks to the paper’s many loyal subscribers.

He adds that gratitude extends to his wife, Laura, and the Enterprise’s many staff members during his time as publisher. Nixon says he is confident the paper will be in good hands with Iowa Information.

Nixon will remain with the Enterprise to assist with the transition and plans to continue covering Coon Rapids events as needed with the new ownership. With the acquisition of the Enterprise, Iowa Information’s catalog now includes more than a dozen publications, including the Carroll Times Herald, N’West Iowa Review, Sioux Center News, and many others.
