Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) President Rob Denson has achieved a historic milestone, becoming its longest-serving president. Denson began his tenure on Nov. 3, 2003, and hit the ground running, or rather, driving. Denson’s first day showcased his commitment to the college by traveling almost 200 miles and visiting all six DMACC campuses with his wife, Pat. Denson says, “I’m honored to be only the fourth President of DMACC in the College’s 57-year history and very proud to be the first native-born Iowan to serve as DMACC’s President. Also, being the longest-serving President is important to me, and it went very fast. I’m as excited and energized to be in this role today as I was my first day on the job.” His two-decade leadership tenure has witnessed significant growth and development at DMACC. Under Denson’s leadership, DMACC established new career academies, expanded student amenities, and increased student enrollment by over 50%. Denson’s vision emphasized creating a welcoming college environment, focusing on financial stability, and forging strategic partnerships with influential organizations. With over 220 programs and pathways, the college serves approximately 55,000 students annually across six campuses, seven learning centers, and DMACC Online.
