An Ida County man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after the court accepted his Alford plea to one count of second-degree sexual abuse. Sac County District Court records show 21-year-old Gary Noah Joseph Juelfs of Ida Grove was initially charged with first-degree kidnapping, a class A felony, second-degree sexual abuse, a class B felony, and lascivious acts with a child, a class C felony, for a July 24, 2022 incident in Sac City. Affidavits from law enforcement initially alleged Juelfs had forced a 13-year-old female victim into his van and raped her. Authorities say results from the rape kit also matched Juelfs’s DNA profile. In an order filed Tuesday, Juelfs was sentenced to 25 years in prison, 17.5 years of which he must serve before the possibility of parole. An Alford plea is an uncommon form of a guilty plea in which the defendant maintains their innocence but acknowledges that the prosecution possesses evidence sufficient to secure a guilty verdict.
