Cecil Hoyle of Churdan

Cecil William Hoyle, age 95, of Churdan, IA, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 15, 2023 at Ramsey Village in Des Moines, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at the United Methodist Church in Churdan with Rev.  David Arulnathan officiating.  Casket bearers will be his grandchildren.  Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery near Churdan with military honors.

Visitation will be held at the United Methodist Church in Churdan from 10 – 11 A.M. on Thursday prior to the service.

Cy, as he was known to most, was the youngest of four children.  He was born on October 6, 1928 in Churdan and he was the son of William and Clarice (Ruth) Hoyle.  He graduated from Churdan High School and was drafted into the United States Army serving two years during the Korean Conflict.  Cy was married to Joyce Clipperton on August 4, 1957 at the Methodist Church in Churdan.  The couple made their home in Churdan where they raised their four children. Cy worked as a carpenter, a vacuum salesman, a farmer and a rural mail carrier.  He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family.

Cy is survived by his wife Joyce of 66 years; his four children and their families: daughter Penny Adam (John) of Ames, daughter Lisa Smithers (Ken) of Denton, TX, son Brent Hoyle (Ronda) of Ankney, and Sid Hoyle (Gina Vogel) of Granger; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and other extended family members.

Cy was preceded in death by his parents William and Clarice Hoyle; his father and mother-in-law William and Audrey Clipperton; a brother Carl Hoyle; and two sisters: Florence Hoskins and Frieda Hoyle.
