With the Iowa caucuses less than a month away, GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley hosted a town hall in Carroll yesterday (Monday) at the Santa Maria Winery. Haley addressed concerns about government spending, border control, education, and protecting and assisting the veterans. She acknowledges that things do not look good right now in the country but she doesn’t need to tell the citizens that, as they can see it themselves.
Haley gives insight into the plans that she has in store for America if she is elected. She informs attendees that if Congress doesn’t get a budget in on time, they do not get paid; it’s that simple.
She also addressed what she calls “the bleeding on the border” with illegal immigration. Her plan is to take it national.
As the wife of a combat veteran, Haley takes the war veterans’ fight when they return home seriously and personally. She says that over 35,000 veterans are homeless, one in three have PTSD or thoughts of suicide and the U.S loses 22 veterans a day to suicide. Haley says its takes about 29 days for vets to get an appointment and it’s shameful how the United States is treating the veterans.
Haley ended the town hall by addressing the audience that she has been laughed at and underestimated her entire life, especially during her running campaigns. She considers that a blessing, as it motivated her to work harder and earn the citizens’ trust. She says Iowans understand the issues and that Iowa will make the right decision. Haley is currently polling at 10.9 percent, which puts her behind Former President Trump, who is at 62.7 percent for the latest polling averages from Project 538. The Iowa presidential caucuses are held on Jan. 15. Pictures from the town hall are included below.
