Carroll City Council Advances Plan To Lengthen Speed Zone On Grant Road Near Fairview Elementary

On Monday, the Carroll City Council took the first step to adjust speed zone regulations on Grant Road north of 18th Street. Carroll Police Chief Brad Burke says he and other city officials have received numerous reports from residents in the 1800 and 1900 blocks of N. Grant Road near Fairview Elementary.

Burke adds that data collected from the radar sign shows the average speed in that area was 10.5 mph higher than the posted limit. Presently, the 25-mph zone begins about 1,300 feet north of the intersection. Burke mentioned they are proposing a code change to extend the zone another 220 feet farther north.

The council unanimously supported the change and voted to approve the first reading of the ordinance. Final approval requires three readings; the second reading is scheduled for the council’s initial meeting in January. City officials can waive the third reading if they choose to do so at that time.
