Carroll Community School District Board of Education met yesterday (Thursday) and was given an update on the Transition Alliance Program that serves eligible students in the district. Presenters were TAP coordinator Ruby Morales and High School Principal Kourtney Abbotts. Morales says that the main goal is not only to assist students in getting a job. Abbotts explains that it goes a step further than that.

TAP accepts students receiving pre-employment transitional services (Pre-ETS) but has no current vocational rehab file. Such students would be those on an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or covered under a 504 plan. Morales explains the process of getting eligible students enrolled in the program.

Five students were enrolled when the program started at the beginning of this school year. Five months in, the number has increased to 37 students, with potentially ten more participating soon, pending eligibility. Morales explains how her students gain those life-long skills by taking tickets at sporting events, work experience in the cafeteria at Adams, and janitorial work in the wrestling and weight room, while one volunteers at the Animal Rescue of Carroll. The students, however, are very excited about the Tiger Cafe they will run at the school.
