Norma “Molly” Gibson of Scranton

Norma Jean “Molly” Gibson, age 98, of Scranton, Iowa, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at the Church of Christ in Scranton with Rev. Levi Dawson officiating.  Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Church of Christ from 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday until the time of service.

Born on July 17, 1925 at Scranton, IA.  She was the daughter of Clyde and Opal (Thomas) White. She grew up in Scranton and attended Scranton High School. Molly as she was known to most was married Gene Gibson on May 10, 1941 at Maryville, Missouri. The couple farmed east of Scranton for several years and moved to Ft. Dodge in 1965 where they purchased the Queen Motel. They operated the Motel for several years and moved back to Scranton in 1979. Molly was a member of Church of Christ in Scranton where she served on the Dorcas Circle. She loved to play cards and spend time with her family. Over the years she belonged to various clubs in the area.

Molly is survived by two sons: Stan Gibson (Sandra) of Scranton and William Van “Jim” Gibson (Dean Koster) of Iowa City; a daughter Linda Ryerson of Ames; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; a half-sister Connie Lipke (Al) of Michigan; a sister-in-law Marge Stewart of Perry; a brother-in-law Paul Behrends of Monticello; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Molly was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gene in 2001; a sister Donna Behrends; a brother Tom Shannon; and a grandson Dan Gibson.
