Goins Park in Lake City will get a new amenity for residents and visitors to enjoy. The City Council has approved in the fiscal year (FY) 2024-2025 a budget for constructing a new pickleball court to be installed by the Lake City swimming pool. City Administrator Jacob Matthews says that pickleball is the fastest-growing pastime in America and is enjoyable and social for people of all ages. Matthews continues to say that the city is very excited about this opportunity and hopes to finish this project just in time for summer.

Matthews says that the old tennis court that is currently at Goins Park was considered to be resurfaced, transforming it into a pickleball court. However, an engineer consulted about the project said a new court would be better.

The tennis court will not be abandoned, though. Matthews says that the engineer gave some insight into what the city could do with it to improve the park.

Carroll and Manning are the only cities in the area with pickleball courts. Carroll has four courts just west of Graham Park and three inside the Carroll Rec Center. Manning offers two indoor courts at the Manning Rec Center. Lake City hopes to get construction underway for the new pickleball court this spring and finish by summertime.
