The Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) recently recognized a Calhoun County author and farmer for her steadfast dedication to promoting Iowa agriculture. Darcy Maulsby of Lake City was presented the “Advocate for Iowa Agriculture” award during an ISA Leadership luncheon on Dec. 19 in Ankeny. The award is presented to an individual, organization, or company that effectively shares Iowa’s agricultural stories and fosters connections between farmers, producers, and the many people who enjoy Iowa’s agricultural products. Maulsby’s passion for sharing Iowa’s stories includes seven non-fiction titles, over 5,000 articles, marketing materials, and more. Her works include “The Culinary History of Iowa: Sweet Corn, Pork Tenderloins, Maid-Rites and More” and “Iowa Agriculture: A History of Farming, Family and Food.” In August, Maulsby was also named the 2023 Iowa Conservation Woman of the Year by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).
