Jean E. Cadwallader of Coon Rapids

Jean E. Cadwallader, age 86, of Coon Rapids, IA, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by her family.

    Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, January 8, 2024 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids with Jill Albright officiating.  Music for the service will be by John and Sharon Richardson.  Casket bearers will be Kevin Dorpinghaus, Jeff Mortvedt, Brian Hardaway, Randy Albright, Brett Stangl, and Roger Baker.  Honorary casket bearers will be her grandchildren.  Burial will be in the Union Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids.

    Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 – 7 P.M. on Sunday.  Additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 9:30 – 10:15 A.M. prior to the service.

     Jean was born on March 4, 1937 in Coventry, England.  She was adopted by Geoffrey and Anne Duffen when she was four and a half years old.  Prior to that she lived in an orphanage.  Jean began her schooling at four years and eight months of age and graduated from Dunmow School in Essex, England at age 15.  After her schooling, Jean worked at a factory that made Christmas decorations, as a clerk at a Woolworths Store, and then and at an Air Force Base PX where she met her husband Raymond Cadwallader.  They were married at the Methodist Church in Bishops Stortford, England on July 2, 1955.  In November of that year they came to America on a passenger liner called The Patch.  They made their home in the Bayard – Coon Rapids area.  To this union were born: Steve, Tony, and Connie.  In 1968, Jean received her United States citizenship in Sioux City, IA.  Her family was very important to her and always came first.  She dearly loved her five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  She worked as a housekeeper in Coon Rapids for many years.  Jean loved to knit, cross stich, do cross word puzzles, and she was an avid reader.  She enjoyed helping the elderly and disabled.  Jean was a member of the Coon Rapids United Methodist Church and the Trans-Atlantic Brides and Parents Association from 1964 – 1983, and at one time there was a group of 26 English friends who Jean called her extended family.  She was one the last remaining member of this group.

     Jean is survived her children and their families: son Steven Cadwallader (Lori) of Coon Rapids, son Tony Cadwallader of Coon Rapids, daughter Connie Faust (Dan) of Earlham; five grandchildren: Crystal Faust, Andrew Faust (Andrea Rider), Spencer Faust (Addy), Jenna Maag (Collin), and Grant Cadwallader (Cortney); four great-grandchildren: Talib, Holden, Ellie, and Hutton; a nephew Tim Duffen; and two nieces Cheryl Bullard and Gayla Wilson.

    Jean was preceded in death by her parents Geoffrey and Anne Duffen; her father and mother-in-law Wallace and Lillie Cadwallader; her brother John Duffin; a brother-in-law Wallace Cadwallader Jr.; and her husband Ray Cadwallader in 2022.
