More information has been provided on the school shooting that occurred this morning (Thursday) at the Perry High School in Perry. Officials identified the shooter as a 17-year old student at Perry High School. Law enforcement has released the name of the suspect, but Carroll Broadcasting is declining to draw attention to the identify of the shooter, as that is often their intended goal. Law enforcement was first notified at 7:37 a.m of the active shooter. Assistant director with Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Mitch Mortvedt says the Perry Police Department responded within minutes.
Mortvedt says when additional officers responded, a thorough search of the school took place.
Mortvedt says alongside law enforcement, first responders were aiding the victims of the shooting.
Mortvedt says the shooter was armed with a pump-action shotgun and a small caliber hand-gun and acted alone in the shooting. Mortvedt says the shooter also created social media posts in and around the time of the shooting, and an investigation is still on-going.
Carroll Broadcasting will update you with the information for the ongoing investigation as it becomes available.
