Audubon County Entering Loan Agreement For Courthouse HVAC Project

Audubon Board of Supervisors approved to enter a loan agreement to pay for the HVAC project at the Audubon County Courthouse. At the meeting on Tuesday (Jan. 2), the Board discussed different avenues that could be taken to pay for the completion of the project. Still, Vice Chairperson Doug Sorensen says borrowing the money was the best option for the county, as the HVAC updates need to happen sooner rather than later.

Sorensen says the decision to borrow the money comes from the construction bids being higher than expected. The project has also been expanded to replace the hot water boiler along with the entire HVAC system, increasing the price of the plan. The $2.8 million improvement, constructed through Graphite Construction, will be paid by a combination of the loan agreement and funding from the American Plan Rescue Act given to the City of Audubon after the COVID-19 pandemic. Sorensen says the loan agreement is just beginning.

Graphite Construction is setting up a schedule to be completed with the major work by Oct. 1 to have the courthouse operational for the November elections this year. Sorensen says anyone with questions is welcome to contact him to get them answered.
