Jerrold “Jerry” Leonard White of Glidden

Jerrold “Jerry” Leonard White, age 58, of rural Glidden, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, surrounded by his loved ones.

     Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 1:00 – 2:45 P.M. at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden with a prayer service at 2:45 P.M. with Ashley Balukoff officiating.  Casket bearers will be Gregg Platt, Lynn Stork, Harry Reever, Dale Schon, Jeffrey Walkup, Rick Burdine, Michael Strautman, and Brian Johnson. Burial will follow in the Dillavou Cemetery in rural Scranton. Preceding the graveside service, everyone is invited to attend a Celebration of Life honoring Jerry at the Downtown Lounge in Glidden.

     Jerry was born on June 9, 1965 in Aurora, Illinois, to Joseph “Butch” Verlyn White Jr. and Joyce Kay (Stauffer) White. Jerry and his family lived in Big Rock, Illinois, where he attended school. While in school he played soccer, participated in Pep Club and FFA. He was also active in auto mechanic’s class. Jerry graduated from Hinckley – Big Rock High School with the Class of 1983. In 1993, Jerry married Vicki Lynn Schroeder and the couple had three children, Shelby, Joseph, and James. Jerry had several different jobs over the years. He worked with his cousin at a service station, he installed pavers; including the pavers at the base of the Statue of Liberty and he installed carpet. He also worked at the West Central Co-op in Ralston, Iowa and worked at Agri-Associates in Glidden. Jerry was currently employed at Nutrien Ag Solutions in Glidden. 

     In 2003, he was united in marriage to Karen Eileen Kendall in Jefferson, Iowa. Karen had two children, Jamie, and Steven. Jerry enjoyed camping, fishing, hanging out and talking/telling stories with his friends, attempting to beat Karen at Yahtzee and sharing his “wisdom” with his grandchildren. There was never a time you couldn’t find Jerry watching an old western or especially his favorite show, Gunsmoke.

      Jerry is survived by his wife, Karen White of Glidden, Iowa; children: Shelby White of Arcadia, Iowa, Joseph “Joey” (Miranda) White of Lake City, Iowa, and James “Jamie” White of Carroll, Iowa; stepchildren: Jamie (John) Kolthoff of Eldora, Iowa, and Steven (Kelli) Kendall of Glidden, Iowa; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Jerry was also survived by his mother, Joyce White of Ralston, Iowa, who lost her battle with cancer on January 24, 2024. 

     Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Joseph White; brothers: James, Jeffrey, and Joshua; and other relatives.
