The Audubon Community School District FFA chapter is holding a unique fundraiser to benefit their mission trip to Liberia and other mission projects. FFA members Kerrigan Larsen and Addie Hocker (Hooker) are the organizers of the Donkey Basketball and clothing drive event being held this Sunday, starting at 3:00 p.m. at the Audubon High School. Donkey basketball is precisely what people picture when they hear the phrase, players riding donkeys while playing basketball. Larsen and Hocker say they will be riding the donkeys and invited others to participate in the fun and battling for the championship title.
Eight Audubon students went to Liberia, Africa, from Dec. 16 through Jan. 4. Larsen and Hocker say the experience was nothing short of amazing, and they want the opportunity to help aid in future mission trips for others to gain the same life experiences.
During the donkey ball, the Audubon FFA will also host a clothing drive for the children at the Hope Center Orphanage. Youth clothes and shoes are in high demand, but all gently used clothing, except winter clothing, will be accepted due to Africa’s humid weather. Larsen and Hocker got the idea for the clothing drive from witnessing a personal connection to the Audubon community while on their trip.
The event starts at 3 p.m. on Sunday, and tickets are $10. The Audubon FFA Chapter invites everyone to come out, enjoy the entertainment, and help support future mission projects and the children in Liberia.
