Students, staff, and families in the Kuemper Catholic School System are celebrating Catholic Schools Week this week. Kuemper President John Steffes says their theme for 2024 is “United in Faith and Community,” which is reflected in their daily activities.
Steffes says each day is unique in its own way, but Wednesday will involve a larger portion of the public. Veterans and their spouses are invited to the Kuemper High School cafeteria at 8:30 a.m. for military service appreciation.
This will be tied into a larger effort to install a permanent display near the gymnasium to recognize those Kuemper alumni who died while serving during the Vietnam War. Steffes says Tuesday and Thursday are also special days where students at Holy Spirit and St. Lawrence will get a visit from their parents.
While not part of the Catholic Schools Week celebration, the Kuemper Ball kick-off is also scheduled for this week as well.
The 2023 Kuemper Ball raised a remarkable $786,388 for the parochial school system, which is used to support teacher salary enhancement, capital projects, equipment purchases, and much more. The 2024 Kuemper Ball is scheduled for Saturday, April 27; more details on the evening will be announced in the weeks ahead.
