The Lake View Police Department is raising funds to help the team get a full-time, certified K9 officer. The department opened the fundraiser in November last year to see if the public would be receptive to the K9 addition. Chief of Police Christopher Jochims says the donation account will be open until the funds are received.
Jochims says they want to get a labrador retriever for the k9 position, as that specific breed has many qualifications that would make it the ideal canine. With other police units across the state and even the country, the labrador retriever is labeled one of the most preferred breeds for narcotic detection. The breed is also a great tracker for evidence detection and finding a missing person. Jochims says the main reason for the labrador retriever is the dog’s demeanor to build relations between the public and law enforcement.
Those interested in contributing to the K9 fund can drop off their donations at the Lake View Police Station or Lake View City Hall. For a limited time, those that donate $20 can receive a t-shit, to help spread the word about supporting the K9 fundraiser. Pictures of the design are included with this story on our website. Jochims thanks everyone who has already donated, saying the new Labrador K9 would be a great asset and a tool to the community of Lake View.
