Shirley Lucht of Glidden

Shirley M Lucht, age 94, of Glidden, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden with Pastor Alan Miller officiating. Music will be by Becky Miller and Carl Wilburn. Casket bearers will be Jeffery Brandt, Allison Meyer, Tyler Lucht, Dustin Lucht, Weston Lucht, Jason Wiederin, and Nick Wiederin. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery in Glidden.

Visitation will be held Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:15 A.M. at Peace Lutheran Church.

Shirley was born on July 17, 1929 in Carroll, Iowa, and was the daughter of George and Myrtle (Cox) Sill. She attended rural school and graduated from Glidden Ralston High School. She then attended college in Denison, Iowa, receiving her teaching certificate where she taught several country schools in the Glidden Ralston area.

On February 19, 1950 she was united in marriage to Harold J. Lucht at Trinity Lutheran Church near Coon Rapids by Pastor E.J. Stelling. They were blessed with four children. They farmed on several farms south of Glidden and then purchased their farm east of Glidden in 1968. Shirley enjoyed helping Harold with the planting and harvesting of the crops and raising livestock, especially the lambs and kittens.

Shirley was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden and served as a Sunday and Bible School teacher and was active in the ladies’ aide.  In her younger years, she enjoyed trapping animals and square dancing with Harold. They also held and attended several neighborhood card parties. In her spare time, she enjoyed taking trips to the casino. They loved going on family vacations to Okoboji and fishing every summer. The couple spent 32 winters in Mesa, Arizona.

Shirley is survived by her children: Carol Bernard of Carroll, Denny Lucht of Glidden, David (Debra) Lucht of Minburn, and Connie (Kenneth) Wiederin of Glidden; grandchildren: Jeffrey Brant of Carroll, Allison Meyer of Ralston, Tyler (Amy) Lucht of Adel, Dustin (Beth) Lucht of Ames, Weston (Michelle) Lucht of Perry, Jason (Kim) Wiederin of Glidden, and Nick (Christy) Wiederin of Glidden; great grandchildren: Brayton, Brianna, Blake, Brayden, Brenna, Landon, Adalynn, Lillian, Ethan, Aiden, Teagen, and Peightyn; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Carl Schechinger of Hutcheson, KS, Ron Lucht of Coon Rapids, Richard (Judy) Lucht of  Des Moines, and Grace Lucht of Des Moines; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Shirley is preceded in death her husband, Harold J. Lucht; parents; son-in-law, Robert Bernard; brother, Russell Dean Sill, sister, Betty Schechinger; brother-in-law, Wayne Lucht; and nephew, Randall Lucht.
