The Carroll Chamber of Commerce’s Banquet Good Neighbor award went to the Heider Family Foundation, who was recognized for helping to fund charitable organizations throughout the Omaha metro, but did extend its reach to the Carroll Community. Charles Heider, a Carroll native who passed away in 2015, founded the Heider Family Foundation back in 1999 along with his wife Mary Heider, who kickstarted the Ignite The Greatness campaign for Creighton University, and assisting Warren Buffett with the purchase of his first insurance business. Tim Fitzpatrick, emcee for the banquet says that while the foundation is not based out of Carroll, the family ties stretched their work out to the community.
Doug Burns introduced the Heider Family, specifically Charles Heider and how his legacy continues to impact Carroll. The donations from the Heider Family Foundation has helped lots of local organizations, which is why they were nominated for the Good Neighbor award.
Due to prior commitments, Scott and Cindy Heider, son and daughter-in-law of Charles Heider, were unable to attend the Chamber Banquet. Burns had the opportunity to talk to the leaders of the foundation, who extended their appreciation for this honor.
Other award recipients from the 60th annual Carroll Chamber of Commerce banquet include: Dave Bruner (Citizen of the Year); Cindy and Tom Bordenaro, Bordenaro’s Meat Market (New Business); Larry Devine, Carroll Times Herald (Public Service); Vicki Gach, Carroll Historic Preservation Commission (Public Service); Katie Kruse (Humanitarian); and Community Oil, Chico and Todd Kanne (Heritage Business).
