Dale Wolterman, age 71, of Carroll, died Sunday, February 11, 2024 at his home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2024 at Holy Spirit Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll. The celebrant will be Fr. Merlin Schrad. Music will be by Kathy Halbur. Mass Servers will be Grace Wolterman and Olivia Wolterman. Lector will be Kyra Wolterman. Eucharistic Minister will be Tricia Wolterman. Gift Bearers and Honorary Casket Bearers will be Sierra Mason, Kyra Wolterman, Tiana Haulk, Aliyah Heard, Grace Wolterman, Hailey Haulk, Olivia Wolterman, and Tyron Wolterman. Casket Bearers will be Malaki Mason, Elijah Haulk, Micah Mason, Dave Mahlberg, Joe Andrews, and Myron Olerich. Burial will be in the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 7p.m. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church on Friday morning where visitation will resume from 9:30a.m. to 10:15a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dale’s name directed to the Kuemper Catholic Schools Foundation.
Dale John Wolterman, (Wally) the son of Wilbur and Helen (Becker) Wolterman was born on October 26, 1952 in Carroll, Iowa. He attended Kuemper Catholic Schools and graduated in 1971. After he graduated he enlisted in the United States Army Infantry, spending six months in Vietnam and upon return was stationed in Fort Rieley, Kansas for two years. During his time in Vietnam he received the bronze service star for bravery and the combat air metal. Two years after leaving the Army he reenlisted in the Army Reserves, artillery unit, stationed in Sac City, Iowa. In 1985 he transferred to the United States Navy Seabees until his retirement in 1996, having served a total of 23 years for his country.
He returned from active duty from the U.S. Army in 1974 and was employed by Badding Construction for 43 years; first as a carpenter and later a superintendent retiring in 2018. He then worked at Western Iowa Transportation until 2021 when he retired due to health concerns. On August 13, 1994, he was united in marriage to Tina Fulton. Dale enjoyed traveling, golfing, camping, and spending time with family and friends.
Dale is survived by his wife of 29 years, Tina Wolterman of Carroll; his children: Brian (Tricia) Wolterman, of Templeton, Tami (Jeremy) Mason of Grimes, Christina (Shaun) Haulk of Carroll, Ashley (Michael, Jr.) Heard of Carroll. His grandchildren: Kyra, Grace, Olivia, and Tyran Wolterman; Sierra, Malaki, Micah Mason; Elijah, Tiana, and Hailey Haulk, and Nire’ and Aliyah Heard. Also surviving are his siblings: John Wolterman of Humboldt, Larry (Marilou) Wolterman of North Pole, AK, Mike (Bonnie) Wolterman of Sioux City, Debbie (Pastor David) Loeschen of Lincoln, NE, Cindi (Kevin) Cregeen of Creston, Linda Culligan of Carroll, Pat (Bert) Madden of Carroll; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Lisa Wolterman of Carroll, Frank (Grace) Fulton II of Spirit Lake, Shelly (Bill) Peterson of South Sioux City, NE, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Wilber and Helen Wolterman, brothers: Jim and Gary Wolterman, his sister: Margaret Wolterman, his brothers-in-laws: Mike Culligan and Dan Fry, Sr., his sister-in-law Dee Wolterman, and his parents-in-law: Frank I and Pearl Fulton.
