Joyce Hoyle of Churdan

Joyce Elaine Hoyle, age 89, of Churdan, IA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Iowa Methodist Medical in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at the United Methodist Church in Churdan with Rev.  David Arulnathan officiating.  Casket bearers will be her grandchildren.  Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery near Churdan.

Visitation will be held at the United Methodist Church in Churdan from 10 – 11 A.M. on Wednesday prior to the service.

Joyce was born on July 21, 1934 in Jefferson, IA.  She was the daughter of William Guy and Audrey (Mumby) Clipperton.  Joyce graduated from Churdan High School and attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and earned her teacher’s certificate.   Joyce was married to Cecil W. Hoyle on August 4, 1957 at the United Methodist Church in Churdan.  The couple made their home in Churdan where they raised their four children.  Joyce taught elementary school in Lohrville for many years.  She was active with the United Methodist Church in Churdan, United Methodist Women and church circle.  She enjoyed golfing, bowling, quilting, socializing with her friends, and spending time with her family.

Joyce is survived by her four children and their families: daughter Penny Adam (John) of Ames, daughter Lisa Smithers (Ken) of Denton, TX, son Brent Hoyle (Ronda) of Ankeny, and Sid Hoyle (Gina Vogel) of Granger; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and other extended family members.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents William and Audrey Clipperton; a sister Nola Wilson; and her husband Cecil W. Hoyle on December 15, 2023.
