Marilyn was born on September 9, 1938 in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Norbert and Cecelia (Wernimont) Wiederin.  She attended St. Angela Academy and graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1956.  On March 30, 1959, she was united in marriage to Paul Hoffmann at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll.  The couple made their home on a farm southwest of Carroll.

Over the years, Marilyn volunteered in various capacities with St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary, Holy Spirit Guild, and with the Kuemper Script Program.

Marilyn was rarely idle.  When the kids were at home she had huge vegetable gardens.  Later, she had flowers of every color and was a fabulous cook and baker; with her grandchildren addicted to her mint chocolate cookies.

She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing clothes for herself and the kids, craft items, curtains, drapes and bridesmaid’s dresses for Jean’s wedding.

In later years, her love of sewing sparked an interest in creating quilts.  She donated over 200 quilts to New Opportunities, Holy Spirit’s sister parish in Rutledge, Tennessee and New Hope Village’s Quilt Auction.  Nearly 100 quilts are cherished by her family.

Some of her favorite things to do were playing cards, games, and bird watching.  She loved spending time with her family, especially on her annual summer gatherings.  Wieder weekends with her sisters meant so much to her.  Marilyn was a member of St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll.

Marilyn is survived by her children: Jean (Randy) Stoberl of Manning, Robert (Gwen) Hoffmann of Iowa City, Ron (Carmen) Hoffmann of Calhoun, Missouri, Dan Hoffmann of Roscoe, Illinois, Steve (Laura Ciesla) of Caledonia, Illinois and David Hoffmann of Carroll; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; her sisters: Pat (Jerome) Heinrichs of Omaha, Nebraska, Annette Baumhover of Carroll, Donna (Kevin) O’Donnell of Las Curses, New Mexico, and Kathy Wiederin (Steve Jordening) of Ames.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Paul in 2000; her daughter-in-law, Lisa Hoffman; and brothers-in-law, Paul Baumhover and Vern Pundsack.
