During Monday’s city council meeting, the City of Glidden and Region XII Council of Governments renewed the agreement regarding a nuisance ordinance and compliance inspections. City Administrator Brooke Peterson says this agreement was established a few years back to assist the city with identifying areas, specifically residential yards, where hoarding unnecessary objects is potentially viewed as an eyesore throughout the community.
Peterson says Region XII wants to send someone to survey the city this week, weather permitting.
Items that will be looked after during the inspection would be cars sitting on lawns that don’t run, have deflated tires, or are not registered in the city, piles of weeds, and any junk left in residential yards. Peterson wants to complete the inspection to allow for plenty of time for the residents to devise a plan to remove the nuisance.
The Glidden Spring cleanup is held the first Friday of May each year; this year, that date is May 3. While only certain items will be accepted for the cleanup, Peterson says residents with ineligible items can meet with Glidden City Council after receiving the notice to create a plan to discard the reported nuisance.
