Jack was a devoted husband, a loving father, and an amazing papa. His family meant everything to him, and his role as a father and grandfather was nothing short of extraordinary. He found immense joy in being a Papa, creating bonds that will forever endure in the hearts of his grandchildren.

A proud supporter of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Jack’s passion for his favorite team was infectious. Whether cheering from the stands or watching the game at home, his enthusiasm was a testament to his unwavering loyalty. Jack also had a love for the great outdoors, finding solace in fishing and deer hunting. So much solace that it would often result in him falling asleep in his chair or deer stand. His eyes would light up at the mere mention of a peaceful day by the lake or the thrill of a successful hunting expedition.

Jack was not only a romantic soul but a devoted husband who never missed an opportunity to express his love for his wife. From spontaneous surprises to bouquets of flowers, he constantly showered his beloved with affection. His love extended to the dance floor, where he and his wife created countless memories moving to the rhythm of life, guided by the lyrics of George Strait’s “Cross My Heart.”

Walking hand in hand around lakes, especially during sunset, brought immense joy to Jack. He had a fascination with lakes and their beauty, a passion that often led to a collection of memories etched against the backdrop of serene waters.

Despite his love for his wife, Jack once famously forgot her at a grocery store, a humorous anecdote that showcased his endearing human side. This quirkiness extended to his collection of boulders, which traveled with him from home to home. His children are still shouldered with the burden of one of these boulders.

Family gatherings at cabins by the lake were a cherished tradition for Jack. His love for puzzles, crosswords, and games brought everyone closer, and he took pride in passing down essential life skills like poker playing, corn-cutting, and mastering the perfect chocolate sauce-to-ice cream ratio.

Jack’s lap was the go-to place for comforting snuggles, though the cat had to be gently persuaded to vacate the prime spot. A community builder, Jack had an unparalleled talent for making everyone feel loved and valued. His generosity and warmth were evident in his affectionate gestures, such as calling everyone to sing “Happy Birthday” on their special day.

An adventurer at heart, Jack rode an ostrich and indulged in activities ranging from golfing to teaching his grandchildren how to drive a cart. His disdain for black licorice and burnt marshmallows never overshadowed his love for his grandchild, accepting these treats with a smile.

Jack was a connoisseur of Western movies, especially those featuring John Wayne, and his love for loud music added zest to family gatherings and tailgates. His penchant for pickled herring pilfered from salad bars for his grand-turtle became a playful tradition, and he was a known soft touch when it came to sharing snacks with dogs.

A hall of fame coach and the best sideline cheerleader, Jack created a home filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories. The only rule that was strictly enforced was not opening the cat door! His commitment to beautiful flower planting every Mother’s Day, featuring a specific combination of flowers, became a tradition that reflected his thoughtfulness.

Jack’s fondness for two-dollar bills added a unique touch to celebrations, while his infectious spirit made every occasion memorable. He leaves behind a family and a community who will forever cherish the love, warmth, and laughter he brought into their lives.

May he rest in peace, surrounded by lakes, sunsets, and the enduring love of those he touched.
