John Charles Parkis, age 56, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at his residence in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, March 11, 2024 at St. John Paul II Parish – Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll.  Lector for the Mass will be Crystal Parkis. Gift bearers will be Kirstin Tuel, Kira Parkis, Chloe Parkis, and Haley Dudley.  Casket bearers will be Mike Parkis, Brian Parkis, Chris Parkis, Taylor Tuel, Cole Parkis, and Brady Parkis. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Dedham American Legion.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll on Sunday where there will be a Rosary held at 4:30 P.M. and visitation from 5 – 7 P.M.  The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9:30 A.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M. prior to the Mass.

John was born on November 8, 1967 in Carroll, IA, and he was the son of Charles and Betty (Timmerman) Parkis.  He grew up in Carroll and graduated from Kuemper High School in 1986.  Following high school, John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.  Following his military service he lived in Minnesota and South Dakota where he worked for the United States Postal Service.  John moved back to Carroll in 2010 and worked as a rural mail carrier and at several local restaurants.  John was an avid Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Vikings fan.  He enjoyed being score keeper for the Carroll Merchants, Bingo, playing bags, and bowling.

John is survived by his mother Betty Parkis of Carroll; his siblings: Mike Parkis of Dedham, Mary Tuel (Marty) of Carroll, Brian Parkis (Crystal) of Carroll, and Chris Parkis (Beth) of Coon Rapids; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his grandparents: Clara and Ed Timmerman and Dick and Dorothy Main; a niece Chelsey Tuel; and his father Charles Parkis in 2017.
