The Coon Rapid’s City Council has approved of an ordinance limiting the usage of portable storage containers within the corporate city limits. The first reading was held during the city council meeting last week, and council members waived the second and third reading, signing the ordinance into effect. City Clerk Jes Leighty says this is an effort to remove all of the less visually appealing aspects of the town and to ensure residential areas are less cluttered by enforcing the limitations of portable storage containers.
Leighty says those who need a storage container may still be approved to have one for a short period of time.
In the ordinance, those approved for the use of a storage container must have it removed after construction is complete or 180 days have passed, whichever is shorter. After the final building inspection, the portable storage must be removed from the property within ten days. Residential use may not exceed thirty days, and will only be allowed one request per calendar year. Besides, from the time frame of removal, the ordinance says the container must be in good standing condition and not impede traffic or pedestrian travel.
