The Carroll City Council completed the final readings and adopted three ordinances during their meeting Monday evening. The first was to establish a prohibition on using portable storage containers as permanent structures in residential districts. Fire Chief and Building Inspection Director Dan Hannasch says he received feedback from a single individual following the ordinance’s first reading last month.
City Manager Aaron Kooiker adds that they did not receive any comments from the public at city hall. The council voted unanimously to approve the second reading, waive the third reading, and adopt the storage container ordinance. The second ordinance was a rezoning request for a portion of land south of U.S. Highway 30 and west of Carroll Community Estates from a Residential Type 6 (R-6) designation to General Business Type 2 (B-2). Kooiker says there has been no opposition to this change so far through the process, and the council took action to adopt it. The final ordinance is for adjustments to the city’s mowing regulations. Police Chief Brad Burke explains.
Previously, residents would have 30 days to cut their lawns after being notified by the city. Under the new ordinance, they have just 72 hours after notification to mow before the city would have the lawn cut at the owner’s expense. The council unanimously approved the second reading, waived the third reading, and adopted the ordinance. All three changes go into effect once published.
