Lanny Jan Dvorak, age 86, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024 at Regency Park Nursing and Rehab in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Monday, March 18, 2024 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Rev. Mike Fitzsimmons officiating. Casket bearers will be Lanny’s grandchildren. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.
Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Sunday, where there will be a Masonic Memorial Service held at 7pm. Additional visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 – 1:45 P.M. on Monday prior to the service.

Lanny was born on June 1, 1937 in Elberon, IA, and he was the son of Glen Joseph and Myrna Loretta (Mason) Dvorak. He grew up on his family’s farm near Elberon until his family moved to Coon Rapids when he was in the fourth grade. He graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1955. Lanny enlisted in the United States Army at age 18 and was stationed in Germany. He was inducted into the 8th Infantry Marching Band and played the trombone. During basic training, he was married to Suzanne Ridgeway on August 12, 1956 at the First United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Coon Rapids and worked at Hague Hatchery. Lanny and Sue had three sons: Randy and Tim born in Germany and Jeff in Carroll. The family moved to Carroll in 1962 when Lanny took a job working Armour Chemical. He later worked in sales and had several other jobs over the years most recently with his son Jeff at J&L Electric. Lanny enjoyed fishing, camping, racing cars, playing his keyboard, socializing with his many friends, going to Texas in the wintertime, and spending time with his family.
Lanny is survived his wife Suzanne of Carroll; his three sons and their families: Randy Dvorak (Brenda) of Weston, MO, Tim Dvorak (Kimberly) of Carroll, and Jeff Dvorak (Lynne) of Carroll; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and other extended family members.
Lanny was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Myrna Dvorak; his father and mother-in-law Don and Helen Ridgeway; two sisters: Delores Wright and her husband Russell and Glenace Doran and her husband Jerry; and a brother-in-law Doug Ridgeway.
