Carroll’s Merchants Park has been selected to host Division Two of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) baseball tournament set for next year in May. With the ICCAC’s current agreement with Iowa Central in Fort Dodge ending this year, the organization sought a new field to host the tournament. Chad Tiemeyer, Director of Parks and Recreation for Carroll Recreation Center, says that after throwing the idea around amongst locals, it went up the chain until it was selected as the contender.
Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), Ellsworth, Hawkeye, Iowa Central, Iowa Lakes, Kirkwood, Marshalltown, Northeast Community College, North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC), Southeast Community College, and Western Iowa Tech are all the teams that are held in this conference. Tiemeyer says this is an excellent opportunity for the community, especially local restaurants and hotels.
The agreement is set for one year. Since this is the first time the conference tournament is being held in this area, ICCAC just wants to ensure that Merchants Park can accommodate it. Tiemeyer says that as long as things go well, this agreement can be extended for a total of three years.
The tournament is scheduled for the second week in May of 2025.
