Born on October 19th, 1931, in rural Greene County, Iowa.  She was the daughter of Walter and Esther Jacobson.  Phyllis grew up in the rural Scranton area attending various country schools, Scranton Consolidated Schools, and graduated in 1949 from the Bayard Community School.

On January 20th, 1952, she joined Wayne Eldon Brown in marriage in the Lutheran Church in Scranton, Iowa. In March of 1952 her husband, Wayne, was drafted into the Army where he served during the Korean Conflict in Germany.  Phyllis lived in Georgia during these years apart.  Upon her husband’s discharge from the Army, the Browns moved to a farm south of Scranton.  Two years later they relocated three miles north of Bayard where they farmed with his father and continued for 59 years.  Later in life the couple moved to Bayard where she could continue to enjoy friends and family. Phyllis is most proud of her marriage of 68 years and raising a family of four children.

Phyllis enjoyed being an AVON representative as she could visit friends while working.  Phyllis was a member of Red hat/lunch bunch, Lions Club, and American Legion. She was an active member of the Bayard United Methodist Church, including Esther Circle and Women’s Club.  She enjoyed bowling, golfing, and countless hours watching her children and grandchildren play in many sports, musical events, and 4-H activities.  Gardening was another interest that gave her great joy.   She faithfully watched the Iowa State Cyclones, Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs games as well as reading newspapers, magazines, and novels.  She cherished her time with card club,  birthday party, and coffee friends as they all raised their families together and continued to lovingly care and support each other.

Phyllis is survived by her children: son Jerry Brown (Kristie) of Algona, Iowa; and two daughters, Linda Seuferer (Rande) of Milo, Iowa, and Lori Brown McGivney of Bayard, Iowa; six grandchildren: Grant Seuferer, Bryant (Rebekah) Seuferer, Brooke Seuferer (Trent Verwers), Gavin McGivney (Xenia), Devi Ray (Mike) and Damion Nepper (Robyn); five great-grandchildren:  Valerie Verwers, Colby (Michael) Eason, Gage Nepper, Landon Ray, and Chesney Nepper; two great-great-grandchildren Jaxden and Taytum Pierson; one sister, Donna Loof (Roger), Urbandale, Iowa, and sister-in-laws Elaine Seaman (Robert) of Carroll, Iowa, and Lois Taylor (Merlin) of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
