The Carroll Community School District Has Approved Of The First Design For A New Transportation Facility

The Carroll Community School District accepted the schematic design of the new proposed transportation facility from DLR Group and is ready to move into the next phase of the design process. The base bid, at a total projected cost of just over five million dollars, includes 13,500 square feet of indoor space for offices, conference rooms, a kitchenette, maintenance areas, and an automatic wash bay. This new facility would be located over by Fairview Elementary and built to the east of the existing transportation building. Two alternatives can be included in the base bid to accommodate up to 40 buses for storage inside the building. The cold storage bays of that size would cost the district over an additional seven million dollars, bringing the total project cost just shy of 15 million, after professional fees and furnishings. Many board members questioned whether this was the right time to consider taking on such a high-price project, considering the tight budget the school is planning on facing in fiscal year (FY) 2025. While not officially voting yes to approving the construction of the new facility, the board did give DLR Group the green light to start into the next step of the design phase, with the submission of the final design being presented at the school district’s board of education at the April 15 meeting. If approved, the CCSD will start accepting bids in July, with construction anticipated to begin in early August this year.
