The City of Glidden is contributing around $200,000 from a certificate of deposit (CD) towards the revitalization of run-down business buildings, to encourage new businesses to purchase and move to the city. City Administrator Brooke Peterson says while she has been applying for grant funding to help with the costs of repairing and updating the old buildings, the city also has to put forward funding in order to be considered for any grants. Peterson says using the money from the CD was the way to go, as it had a few beneficial factors.
Peterson says by the city purchasing and fixing up the buildings, it saves those costs for new business owners who might not be able to afford to put up those high price fixes right away. Two businesses have already been in contact with Peterson about purchasing the current building when the project is complete.
Peterson says no set timeline has been set on completion of the buildings, as most of it depends of how much grant funding the city can qualify for.
Peterson says while this project is a huge undertaking by the city, she is hopeful that the new businesses will thrive and bring new opportunities to the City of Glidden.
