The City of Carroll will begin the process of flushing the watermain by opening up all 500 of the city’s fire hydrants starting next Monday, with the anticipated completion of the program in mid-May. This is in effort to cause a high rate of water flow in the watermains, to break off of any rust in the interior walls of the water piping and remove it before it reaches consumer’s taps. Crews will work on the flushing between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. during the week, opening approximately 25 of the city’s fire hydrants per day. There is a possibility that some rusty water will remain in the water system following the flushing, and any resident that experiences this should contact the Water Division at 712-792-1000 so personnel can analyze and attempt to correct the rust water occurrence. Again, the watermain flushing process will take place starting next Monday, and occur everyday during the week through mid-May. The flushing projected schedule has been included below.
