School safety has been another top priority in the recent bills reviewed by the Iowa House and Senate, to provide safety grants to assist schools with the purchase of safety features to updating software in buildings to detect threats and alert law officials immediately. During the previous legislative forum, District Six Senator Jason Schultz briefly touched on current bills being discussed in the Senate.
Jason Hoffman, the communications director and 911 coordinator for Carroll County says he supports this bill, but is concerned about where the funding for this new security package is coming from.
Senator Schultz commented back saying the Senate has just reviewed the bill that came from the Iowa House and was not aware of the funding source for the security program. Hoffman encouraged the legislators to look for a different funding source before passing the bill.
Hoffman again wants to emphasize that he is not against the bill, as the Carroll County 911 Communications and local law enforcement want to implement the best software programming and technology to ensure the safety of the local students.
As of March 21, the bill has been placed on the calendar under unfinished business in the Senate.
