On Saturday, April 6, Stewart Memorial Community Hospital (SMCH) staff demonstrated their commitment to community service by volunteering for the annual “This is Home” cleanup event in Lake City. Over 20 employees and their families dedicated their time to assist nine homeowners in the area with spring cleaning tasks. This event marked the practice’s return, which had been paused for the past few years due to adverse weather and carryover from COVID restrictions. Despite battling gusty winds reaching up to 40 mph, participants completed various yardwork tasks such as cleaning gutters, raking leaves, and bagging trash for community members who were unable to do so themselves. SMCH Chief Financial Officer Jim Henkenius says, “We hadn’t worked at some of these homes in a couple years, and it showed. We were grateful that the weather halfway cooperated, and we were able to provide some much-needed cleanup for the residents of Lake City.”
