An Audubon woman was killed yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon following a car/semi collision on U.S. Highway 71 in Audubon County. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 2:16 p.m. near the intersection with 220th Street, about 1.5 miles north of Hamlin. Authorities say a 1998 Buick Century, operated by 73-year-old Sheryl Zinke of Audubon, was traveling westbound on 220th and failed to yield at the intersection’s stop sign to a northbound 2008 Peterbilt semi-tractor trailer, driven by 42-year-old Ross Miller of Carroll. The semi collided with the driver’s side of the sedan, and Zinke sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Miller was uninjured. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office, Audubon County Emergency Medical Services, and Audubon Fire Department assisted the Iowa State Patrol at the scene.
