St. Anthony Regional Hospital Awarded Just Over $30,000 In Grant Funding To Start Up New Summer Internship Program

St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll has been selected as one of six projects to receive grant funding to assist in providing internship programs for youth in the Carroll and Denison areas. Gov. Kim Reynolds announced today (Thursday) a total of $321,080 in grants from Future Ready Iowa’s Summer Youth Internship Program for youth interested in pursuing high-demand careers to gain knowledge and work experience. St. Anthony was awarded $30,560 to provide 16 participant internships over six weeks to increase the understanding and preparedness for healthcare careers for youth who face upward mobility barriers. St. Anthony will partner with Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), Western Iowa Tech (WIT) Community College, and Carroll High School to recruit students for the internship and Iowa Plains WIOA Title 1 program to co-enroll eligible participants. Interns can shadow multiple fields around the hospital, including laboratory techs, licensed practical nurses (LPN), occupational therapy assistants, physical therapy assistants, and various information technology (IT) occupations. While shadowing, the interns will receive mentoring from hospital staff and be able to engage in weekly workshops. Students interested in participating in the St. Anthony summer internship program are asked to talk to their respective school’s guidance counselor or academic advisor.
