The Sac City Fire Department Removed Roof Of Sac City Home To Fight Garage Fire That Spread To The Attic

A Sac City home was deemed a total loss after fire crews removed the roof to battle a fire that spread from the garage to the attic. At approximately 5:00 p.m. yesterday (Wednesday) evening, the Sac City Fire Department was dispatched to 705 N 5th St., after the garage caught fire while the owner, Cole Long lost control of a small burn beside the dwelling. Once officials arrived, Long took off and was not seen while crews fought the fire spreading through his house and into the attic. Due to the size of the crew that responded, officials decided the roof needed to be removed to mitigate the blaze. The Lytton and Early Fire Departments and the Sac County EMS assisted with the fire, but due to the size of the crew, officials decided the roof needed to be removed to mitigate the blaze. Wirtjers Construction out of Sac City used an excavator to assist the fire crews in removing the roof, and the fire was diminished around 7:00 p.m. The Lytton and Early Fire Departments and the Sac County EMS assisted the Sac City Fire Department at the scene.
