Iowa DOT Encourages Work Zone Awareness As 2024 Construction Season Gets Underway

Road construction work zones are becoming a common sight across Iowa as the 2024 construction season gets underway. These zones vary in size and duration, from large-scale projects lasting weeks to smaller, short-term tasks like pothole repairs. While the larger zones may be easier to spot, caution is advised when navigating any work area. A common theme between work zones is the presence of workers on site improving road conditions. These individuals’ and motorists’ safety hinges on drivers. The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) encourages Iowans to buckle up, maintain appropriate speed, and stay focused on the road when traveling through a construction zone. Sixty-one deaths have been recorded in Iowa in 2024 thus far. In 2023, the state reported 377 traffic-related fatalities.
